We are currently working on this projects

Manjelwa bridge construction

Nzofwe river bridging Manjelwa and Itimba villages. The purpose of this project is to complete the reconstruction of a dilapidated bridge that was in a delicate condition and was affecting a safe passage over the Nzofwe river, especially during the rainy season. The renovation means the removal of the old structure - and disposal of material which is being taken into consideration.

A lot of work is being done to reinforce the concrete riverbank foundation and to install supported iron T-beams as the main structure, and to take care of the platform from both a functional and aesthetic standpoint. For example, hardwood planks are being bolted to T-beams, iron sheets are being painted with red-oxide and railings with black and yellow markers.

Msheve Primary School Construction

The project aims for a complete reconstruction of a strongly deteriorated school building, in order to provide better, more dry and hygienic conditions for students and teachers. The renovation work includes the removal of the older infrastructure – and the disposal of material.

Other areas of intervention include:

  • Reinforcing the foundation with concrete slab
  • Constructing the wall with 5 cement blocks
  • Installing proper door and multiple window frames for better-lit classrooms.
  • Erecting a solid roof with termite resistant wood planks

Manjelwa Church

Manjelwa Church is a small village church and community center in the village of Manjelwa. These small institutions are important to the village life because they mean coming together.

The members of that center have done small contributions towards a reconstruction of the poor building and have actually build already a wall but due to the obvious financial limitations of the people, this is dragging on for a long time, with yet a long way to go.

Hands for Songwa Foundation will support them for materials and technical support. Construction work itself would be done by the members themselves, respectively by the bricklayers, carpenters etc. among them.
